I’m Still Here (2010)Directed by: Casey Affleck Written by: Casey Affleck, Joaquin PhoenixStarring: Joaquin Phoenix, Antony Langdon, Casey Affleck & a Bunch of Film Stars We All Know
Is it a hoax? It’s not a hoax. Oh, it is hoax. Okay, the hoax isn’t the point and doesn’t matter.
That was all of what I heard surrounding this film, so I figured I’d finally decide to see it. All in all, I have to say that I don’t think that, even if this was just a performance and not real life (either way I don’t care enough about Phoenix to mind) I don’t think it was his best work. The situations he’s put in are all too cartoon for my liking, and it’s packed with a bunch of unnecessary cringe.
With that said, I found that, no matter what the rest of the film was like, the scenes with Phoenix wading through water and the like was moving if not a bit poignant, as you see a truly deconstructed spirit dealing with demons we can’t possibly begin to fathom (perhaps they aren’t even there at all?).
My rating: 2.5/5
