Lolita (1962)Directed by: Stanley Kubrick Written by: Vladimir Nabokov (novel)Starring: Sue Lyon, Shelley Winters, James Mason, Peter Sellers
I think I made a misstep watching the Jeremy Irons version first, even though a bunch of people panned that one. Growing up with the generation that I did, with the internet, etc., makes this film version pretty tame, but I can see how it was daring and risqué at the time. It’s definitely well acted, but I think James Mason is extremely miscast. Sellers is great, but to be honest I found a majority of the cast well……pretty annoying. They’re dealing out great performances as I said, but they irked me more than intrigued me. Thought it would be more than it was (whatever that means).
My rating: 3.5/5
