Sleeping Beauty (2011)
Directed by: Julia Leigh Written by: Julia Leigh
Starring: Emily Browning, Rachael Blake, Ewen Lewis, Les Chantery, Eden Falk, Mirrah Foulkes
This was on the list of most anticipated films of 2011 for me, and when I finally got the chance to see it, I was totally satisfied with the quality of work, and the look of the film, but completely underwhelmed by the story itself.
With a plot like this one, the possibilities are endless, and the filmmaker is given a chance to make not only a truly daring film, but also one that explores the human psyche. Well, this movie does not even try to achieve that. There are eccentricities and interesting aspects to the character, and Emily Browning plays it gracefully and is extremely brave, but the story she’s given doesn’t do her performance justice.
My rating: 3/5
