Beginners (2011)Directed by: Mike Mills Written by: Mike MillsStarring: Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, Mélanie Laurent, Goran Visnjic, Lou Taylor Pucci
Top-notch performances, surprisingly more touching than I thought it’d be (I was worried it might be over-indulgent in sentimentality). Christopher Plummer is of course wonderful, but also heartbreaking. Laurent and McGregor are not only great performers, but come on - they’re two gorgeous people being gorgeous together. The story itself was quiet and moving, and while the editing and layout to the film’s plot was a little rough, the messages of compassion, learning, and loving was delivered quote beautifully.
