Kings of Pastry (2009)Directed by: Chris Hegedus, D.A. Pennebaker With: Jacquy Pfeiffer, Philippe Rigollot, Regis Lazard, Sebastien Canonne
This is a surprisingly enjoyable documentary - I know, I know, how can any doc about pastries and such be uninteresting…but I was expecting something a lot more fluffy, and a lot less significant and truthful. The film centers around prestige, and is all about the tension in achieving said prestige. This people are so dedicated, and some to a fault, and the doc makes it easy to connect to and care for these competitors with such drive and passion for their craft.
My rating: 4/5
