There’s something deeply unsettling about this film, and as it’s one of Cronenberg’s first, it makes for all the more of an entertaining watch. It’s bonkers and you can see where he’d start his career in venereal horror. It’s a simple idea with complex consequences. Cronenberg is a master at this!

first day of the rest of my life, literally

+ along with yesterday’s accomplishments including sending out my first official email blast to my, um, MY mailing list, I also got some cool designy things lined up that I’ll hopefully be able to start talking about soon - cross fingers!

+ for the first time in a long time, I was able to spend all day talking to friends, getting updated on everyone’s lives, and explaining why I was absent for two years

+ will hopefully be getting back in the swing of things in regards to the music world - helping the goddess Cathy out with interview questions for some cool people, so keep your eyes on Suburban Roads Magazine!

+ finally am able to tidy my room and officially move in even though I’ve been in this place a half year

+ am listening to literally every record I own

+ will be upholding the tradition I’ve for nearly a decade now of watching Dazed and Confused on the last Friday of the school year…except this time is the last time…unbelievably excited, but sad

The cast alone makes this movie most definitely watchable, but the story is just okay. At a certain point, the action sequences start to numb the viewer, but I could watch Brolin and Gosling on screen all day.

Hey, you don't know me but I just got accepted in the graphic design program at Sac state. This is my 2nd attempt in applying. What advice do you have for me in the fall when I take 120, 122 and 125? I'm really excited about it but nervous because everyone says its insanely rough...if its as bad as people say then ill still stick it out. What projects should I expect? Any more tips? :)

First of all, I have to give you a big CONGRATULATIONS! It’s a great feeling, yeah? I actually think I took a photography class with you, but I may be wrong! :)

Advice I can give is simple, but people rarely seem to work to adhere to it: SLEEP. Get sleep. Eat food. I know that late nights and being stressed and depressed seem to be the norm for the program, but I don’t think I could’ve done it if I went that way. I made sure to get sleep, and when I was feeling frustrated about a project, I walked away from it for a breather and came back to it later. I also know that any time I work late on something, the project is not getting the quality from me it deserves. I also find seriously budgeting my time was what got me through. When I could see on paper that 4:00 - 6:00pm was work for 125, then 6:00 - 7:30pm was 120, somehow I was able to stick within that time frame and be more efficient. You just have to develop your intuition when it comes to knowing what projects will take what amount of time.

So, if you remember that you’re a human being and you need certain things like food, water, and sleep to function, it’ll help you a lot more along the way. It’s an extremely challenging program, but I would say you hit your stride senior year. I would say that for 125, embrace all of the changes that are presented to you. It’s kind of like hitting a wall because you completely recraft your way of thinking, of process, and of creative output in that class. Main tip, though: be confident in knowing that if you’re open to constructive criticism and a complete rehaul of how you work, you’ll be a great asset to the program and to your own future!
